Igal city
The lovely small city of Igal, with its history-spirited streets and guest-loving people, is hidden in hilly outer Somogy County.
The local health spa today is a well known attraction for those who seek recovery from different ailments and who wish to rejuvenate their tired bodies and depressed souls.
Beautiful scenery-rich Somogy has its highest point at Kanya (‘Crow’) Hill, from where in clear weather one can see Lake Balaton to the north and the Mecsek Mountains with Zengo to the south. Igal can be approached easily from any direction. The distance to Kaposvar is 24 km and to Lake Balaton only 40 km.
Hungary is extremely rich in underground thermal water and because of this God-given gift, over the past several decades, numerous health-spas were established.
Igal is quite unique among them. The natural surroundings of the health-spa are very beautiful. Wooded areas with newly built villas are seen everywhere. This is not the case with most of the Hungarian health spas. Hills and valleys make the scenery in Igal even more attractive and beautiful.
Spa
The history of the Igali spa can be traced back to the forties of the last century, when the first drilling began in the area of the old market square.
Contrary to the initial assumptions that there is oil in the area - from a depth of 651 meters, 81-degree water, which has since become famous for its outstanding healing properties, has come to the surface. The development of Igal was clearly founded by this exploration and the decision made in the sixties - to build a spa in the settlement.
